Why Origami Day?

You can magically fold a simple piece of paper into all manner of magical objects, toys and creatures with no tools and a little patience. Do we need more of a reason to celebrate the art of paper folding with it’s own day? I don’t think so.

But Origami can be so much more than a cute cultural artifact, and so much more than a specific day. It can be a way to look at the world, a way to celebrate your days, a way to calm down and pay attention to the adventure that is your life. All those things are precious and useful and need to be encouraged. This sites aims to do that encouraging, and help you enjoy the journey once you are on it.

Hi! I’m Samir Bharadwaj aka Papernautic.

I learnt origami in school.

NO, not from the teachers! I learnt it by practicing models my Dad taught me, or some which I picked up from books, under my school desk when the teacher wasn’t looking.

When school was out for the summer, I learnt to fold even more things, by releasing paper airplanes from roofs and balconies, and launching paper boats into the model ocean which would flood our yard in the monsoons.

I’ve tinkered with every variety of paper art and craft since and have tried to pass on this obsession to as many people as I can online and in person through workshops, videos and origami instructions.

the Papernautic Story

After a lifetime of folding, I started Papernautic as a Instagram account over a decade ago. The site and a Youtube channel followed soon after. Since then, Papernautic has been a paper art studio producing art pieces, custom packaging, stylish props and costumes, adventurous art workshops and much more.
